Captive State is a 2018 Amblin Partners and Lightfuse & Gettaway. Captive State is scheduled to be released on August 17, 2018.
Several films have set release dates today with the most notable being “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos’ attempt at a corset drama with “The Favourite”. The story is set in the court of Queen Anne in early 18th century England where two noblewomen jockey for power and influence. Olivia Colman plays Queen Anne with Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz as the rivals. Today, Fox Searchlight set a November 23rd U.S. release date.
Next up, Focus Features has delayed “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Gambler” director Rupert Wyatt’s sci-fi feature “Captive State” by a full nine months, pushing the film back from August 17th this year to March 29th 2019. John Goodman, Vera Farmiga and Ashton Sanders star in the film about the lives of a Chicago neighborhood a decade after occupation by an extraterrestrial force. The film was shot just over a year ago, so the delay suggests some reshoots may be in order.
Focus Features has also announced a November 9th release date for “On the Basis of Sex,” the biopic of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Mimi Leder helms the film which stars Felicity Jones, Armie Hammer and Justin Theroux. Also today, Warner Bros. Pictures has set a couple of dates with the Melissa McCarthy-led action comedy “Superintelligence” opening Christmas 2019. The story follows a former corporate executive whose unfulfilled life is turned upside down when she is selected for observation by an advanced artificial intelligence.
